The Langeled Project
As the world's longest offshore pipeline, the Langeled large-diameter pipeline transports natural gas from Nyhamna on the west coast of Norway to Easington in England via the offshore platform Sleipner. The unprocessed gas is brought by two 30" OD pipelines from the Ormen Lange field at 1000 metres depth to the gas terminal Nyhamna, where it is processed.
The pipeline is 1200 km long, and over 1 million tons of steel pipe were used in its construction. The constant internal diameter of Langeled North is 1016 mm (42" OD), and 1066 mm (44" OD) for Langeled South. The pipes were manufactured from SAWL 485 IFD grade steel according to DNV standard OS F 101.
EUROPIPE supplied 835 kilometres of pipe, of which approx. 800 km were manufactured in Mülheim and the remainder at our Dunkirk pipe plant. Pipe manufacturing began in April 2004 and was completed in January 2006. Approximately 30,000 tons a month were transported to Norway, where they received an exterior coating and were encased in concrete. The "Ormen Lange" field has been active since October 2007.
EUROPIPE has supplied STATOILHYDRO with a total of 2.3 million tons of steel pipes.
