In August 2008, EUROPIPE put a new crimping machine into operation at its plant in Mülheim. The crimping machine is the first stage in the process of pipe forming: the longitudinal edges of the heavy plate, which can measure up to 50 mm in thickness and up to 18.3 m in length, are bent with a maximum force of up to 11,000 tonnes.
With this new press and the underlying investment of more than EUR 20 million, we are taking into account the general market trend towards greater wall thicknesses and ever increasing demands on the geometry of our pipes. Manufacturing and installing the press were a major logistical achievement since the project was fitted into the existing production process. Within just a few weeks, the machine had been delivered, constructed and incorporated into the forming production line, and has now been successfully put into operation.

Nord Stream AG, Zug/Switzerland and EUROPIPE signed an agreement on the delivery of steel pipes for the construction of the Baltic Sea gas pipeline. The first section of the pipeline, altogether 1,220 kilometres long, extends from Vyborg, Russia, to Greifswald, Germany. EUROPIPE will supply approx. 75 percent of the pipes. It is the largest offshore project in the world so far; the planned pipeline will have an outer diameter of 48 inches and be the first offshore pipeline that manages without a compressor station. The contract volume for EUROPIPE comprises 860,000 tons of pipe with the contract value exceeding 1bn euros.
